Sunday evening we will be looking at the life of the Old Testament character
Joshua, and what it has to teach us: namely that of overcoming passivity,
procrastination, and the fear of failure. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>Often,
and especially as men, we have a tendency to be very passive and we may even
hide this passivity and procrastination under the banner of spirituality, such
as “we are resting in the Lord” or “waiting on him” (not wrong attitudes in themselves).
But we can always be doing that, so that this is no longer “a waiting on the
Lord” but really a pattern of passivity or timidity which has led to us refusing
to take action or control of our lives because we have felt safe in this place
of passivity. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>This
applies equally to many women. They may feel that they are like a wall flower
and that they don’t have a voice and that they in fact shouldn’t assert
themselves because this isn’t spiritual behavior, but God equally wants to set women
free in these areas of their lives, not in the negative spirit of feminism but through
the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>The
Lord said to both Adam and Eve together<i>, “be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of
the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”</i> (Genesis
1: 28). They were not be passive but to take action as he spoke to them and
encouraged them. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>So
do come and join us at 6h00 pm on Sunday evening. This will not be a word of discouragement
but one of hope and encouragement as we see how God worked with a very human Joshua
and taught him to be “strong in the Lord.” <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
