INVITATION TO THE JOINT CIVILS DIVISION LECTURE SERIES 2008
THE DURBAN HARBOUR WIDENING PROJECT - PRESENTATION BY ANDREW OFFICER
LECTURE BY ANNE WILSON, CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER, TRANSNET CAPITAL
PROJECTS
The Joint Civils Division of SAICE and ICE is hosting its next event in
the 2008 Lecture Series in Durban at the Royal Natal Yacht Club.
Transnet Capital Projects: One Programme, Two Huge Challenges
The lecture will be presented by Anne Wilson, Chief Procurement
Officer, Transnet Capital Projects. The lecture will address the
following pertinent procurement issues:
How do we change the way employers and contractors engage so
that we can address two of the biggest challenges we face on this
programme:
1. How to harness all the skills and expertise needed to
deliver this complex and varied infrastructure programme; and
2. How to ensure that through this programme South
Africa's construction industry evolves and transforms to better
represent the demographics of the country and develop the skills and
flexibility required to be competitive and sustainable in the
international market.
Anne Wilson will give an overview of the Transnet Capital
Programme, and then discuss some of the alternative contracting
strategies they are starting to employ to deal with the questions raised
above.
Please join us from 16h30 for a cup of tea or coffee at the Royal Natal
Yacht Club, Trafalgar Room, where we will hold the talk, which will
start around 17h00. Andrew Officer will present the Durban Harbour
Widening Project as introduction to Ann Wilson's lecture. The talk will
be followed by a short update on the division by the Chairman, Mr Mike
Lomas, refreshments and a time to network with peers. We plan to finish
some time between 18h30 and 19h00 hrs.
We offer CPD points on qualifying lectures to those people who have
e-mail addresses.
Please confirm attendance by replying to secretary at jointcivils.co.za
<http://www.jointcivils.co.za/mailto:secretary@jointcivils.co.za> .
To cover costs we will place a box at the door to receive a contribution
of R70.00 (we will of course accept more than this!) for the lecture.
Engineering students will not be asked for a contribution.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to anyone who might be
interested in joining the Joint Civils Division or the lecture.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 14 August from 16h30.
