The Application of Finite Element Method in Practice
Roland Prukl's course on the Finite Element method has been presented in
South Africa and overseas for more than twenty years and has for the
past six years been promoted by the SAICE and underwritten by ECSA,
which recognises the course as worthy of 5 Professional Development
points.
Delegates have endorsed SAICE's and ECSA's support in testimonials and
commentary after having attended the course. Below is a selection of
comments from people who have recently attended this course.
Dear Roland
I wish to complement you on the quality of the finite element analysis
course which you present. Your unique approach changed my perspective on
problem solving and challenged me to set myself higher standards in the
application of thought. The complex content was clearly presented in a
manner which testifies of deep understanding of the subject matter which
is rare amongst course presenters. It is the only post-university course
which I have attended to date in which the lecturer was willing to share
his knowledge so openly. I would certainly recommend your course to any
FEM practitioner.
Best regards
Michael Herzog, Thyssen-Krupp
The course was very helpful in many ways. Not only did I get a good
knowledge of the pros and cons of various types of elements used for
analysis but other subtle points that have been mystery for a long time
were revealed. For example, it has taken me 5 years to understand fully
the meaning of eigenvalues and what an eigenvector is. I studied
vibration analysis in my Bachelors degree but this principle was never
explained in such clarity. I can say, it took Roland Prukl one (1)
minute to explain something I have struggled with for 5 years.
Chibila Frances Ulaya, Element Six Production Ltd.,
The content of the course is extremely relevant to me. However, the
duration of the course is shorter than what is required to cover the
content of the course in full. There is need for more time in my
opinion. The presenter is extremely knowledgeable on his material.
There is need for more practicals
Jonathan Nyandoro, Hatch Africa
Most enjoyed: The daily examples which often produced such surprising
results.
Least enjoyed: The traffic on the road in the morning and evening.
This course has been something of a revelation to me, I have realised
that what I once knew was criminally insufficient with regard to FEA.
After this mega-week, I find that I have learned just enough to feel
encouraged by FEA and more than enough to be cautious and diligent.
Roland has been a fantastic facilitator who has had the patience and
understanding required to make FEA relevant and accessible to every
delegate at every level of learning. I cannot be grateful enough for
the opportunity to learn from a collection of others' mistakes and
successes.
Lauren Drake, Hatch Africa
I like the fact that the course was presented by someone as experienced
as Roland who could actually carry his message across very clearly. I
would recommend that everyone who does FEA whether they just started
working with it or whether they've been working with it for years. I
can walk away from this course not just with knowledge to run a FEA
module, but also with the understanding of how the software interprets
the input and how to read the output. This course is not just about FEA
but it also reinforces basic structural analysis, which we as engineers
seem to put behind us as soon as we start using software to analyse
structures.
Natalie De Morney, Goba (Pty) Ltd.
Overall, a brilliant and very well presented course.
Very enjoyable course with lots of practical examples where attendees
can see different results by using different techniques and thereby
realising the dangers of FEA. Attendees were able to familiarize
themselves with Strand 7. After the course, I have a good background of
an engineering tool, which can be used for a lot of applications. This
background will not only help me in design but also at reviewing someone
else's design.
Stephan Jansen van Rensburg, Hatch Africa
Venue's technical, catering and location is highly recommended for this
course. The 7am - 6pm schedule is quite hard, but this is adequate to
cover (touch on) all the areas of FEA.
The speaker is to be commended on his vast knowledge, experience and
"after sales service of support". Also for making complicated concepts
understandable. Definitely highly recommended for anyone associated/in
touch with FEA.
Waleed Palmer, Thyssen Krupp UHDE
