Introduction

This one-day course is aimed at developing an understanding into the basic design theory as well as demonstrating the application thereof with suitable design examples on each section.

The course would be suitable for young engineers and technologist as well as experienced engineers who feel the need to get back to grips with the basics of reinforced concrete design. 

Course Background

The course will be presented by Gregg Parrott who is an associate Director and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Durban University of Technology and has over eighteen years teaching experience in Reinforced Concrete Design. He has also successfully presented similar courses to this one at a number of centres around the country over these years.

      Introduction and Limit State Theory

     Flexure in Beams

     Shear and Torsion in Beams 

     Flexure in Slabs

     Sheer in Slabs (incl.punching shear)

     Rectangular Columns

     Design Examples

COST

The cost of the course is R2000, 00 per delegate for SAICE and CSSA Members and R3000, 00 per delegate for Non-SAICE Members, which includes a copy of the book ‘Reinforced Concrete Design to SANS 10100-1 (revised 2008 edition) as well as handouts, lunch and teas.

CANCELLATION POLICY: The full fee is payable if cancelled less than five (5) working days prior to the event. Delegates registering after the cancellation date is also liable for the full fee should they cancel. Please ensure that you receive a cancellation fax. Delegates booking and not attending will be liable for the full fee. Substitute delegates are welcome but names must be advised on a company/department letterhead. An administration fee of 10% is charged in the event of cancellation. SAICE reserves the right to cancel the course in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
