STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN CODE TO SANS 10162: 1-2005

Johannesburg 30 March 2009 Cape Town 25 May
2009

Port Elizabeth 27 July 2009
East London 21 September 2009

INTRODUCTION: SANS10162-1:2005 is the latest structural steel design
code and it essential that designers are familiar with the changes that
have

been made from SABS 0162-1:1993. It is important to note that designs
based on codes using the 'allowable stress" design approach are no
longer

permitted since the allowable stress design standard has been withdrawn.
This one-day course is aimed at developing an understanding into the

basic design theory as well as demonstrating the application thereof
with suitable design examples on each section.

Course Background: The course will be presented by Greg Parrott who has
over fifteen years teaching experience in Structural Steel Design

and has presented similar courses around the country. In obtaining the
1 CPD credit for this course, and by voluntarily completing some

design homework examples you could be given credit for the first module
of the SAISC advanced course on the design of industrial buildings

and qualify to enter the subsequent three modules.

Requirements: Delegates should preferably be in possession of the fifth
edition of the SAISC handbook (Red book).

COST: The cost of the course for SAICE members is R2000.00 (incl) and
R3000 for non-SAICE members.
