ANNOUNCEMENT OF SAICE SEMINAR ON THE GENERAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT FOR

CONSTRUCTION WORKS, SECOND EDITION 2010

Why the GCC 2010 seminar?

Following on six years of application in construction engineering works,
the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works, Second
Edition,

2010, has now been revised to clear up responsibilities and to provide
for a wider spectrum of construction works. In this regard the Second
Edition is suitable

for both construction and building works contracts and although its
focal point is on the contracting strategy of design by the employer, it
is also suitable for

the design and built contracting strategy. Thus, in addition to the
traditional civil engineering construction work, it is also appropriate
for mechanical and

electrical work as well as for building work. It is ideal to deal with
civil, mechanical, electrical and building projects or a combination of
these various types of projects.

The General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works, Second
Edition, 2010 (GCC 2010) issued and published by SAICE, replacing GCC
2004, satisfies the

Construction Industry Development Board's Standard for Uniformity in
Construction Procurement as a standard conditions of contract.

In view of the current state of the construction industry with new
emerging role players, revised procurement rules,

Introduction of different forms of dispute resolution and so forth,

there was a need to provide a GCC 2010 Guide for the correct
interpretation and implementation of GCC 2010.

This seminar will be presented by Willie Claassen who drafted GCC 2010
and the GCC 2010 Guide on behalf of SAICE.
