"THE REDBOOK " - SOUTHERN AFRICAN STEEL CONSTRUCTION HANDBOOK 7th
EDITION BY SOUTHERN AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF STEEL CONSTRUCTION

 

The Southern African Steel Construction Handbook 7th Edition is now
available from South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE)
for R1200.00 and R400.00 for students.  The Seventh Edition of the
Southern African Steel Construction Handbook follows, like the Sixth
Edition, just two years after its predecessor, which testifies to the
continued popularity of this publication, and to the fact that a growing
number of people need information about steel construction.  This is
surely an encouraging state of affairs.

 

Two factors combined to make the Seventh Edition necessary:  the stocks
of the previous edition were nearing exhaustion, and there were major
changes in the field of hollow sections.  These sections will in future
be available in material with a yield stress of 355 MPa - in contract
with the 300 MPa that applied till now - and the range of sections
available in the higher strength material has also been changed.
Another important change was that a specification for the galvanising of
Class 10.9 bolts was added to clause 6.2.6.  We considered these changes
to be significant enough to justify a new edition.

 

Any other changes made to the Sixth Edition were of a minor nature and
were mostly in the form of small corrections to obscure things.

 

The Red Book is intended to be a ready reference to anybody who needs
information on almost any technical subject related to structural steel.
Its user community has been consistently supportive of its style and
contents, and we have seen no reason to make significant changes to it.
