[Saice] Invitation to a Workshop regarding Delayment Payments in the Construction Industry

invitation that we received on 13 September 2010 and reply directly to
the CIDB if you wish to participate

Dear Colleagues

The cidb through its partnership programme, Infrastructure Delivery
Improvement Programme (IDIP) identified delayed payment to contractors
as one of the main blockages to infrastructure delivery in the
construction industry. While the PFMA stipulates payment within 30 days
of submission of claim, most clients do not comply with the legislation
as well as the individual contracts signed between themselves and the
contractors. Failure by clients to pay contractors within the stipulated
period in their contracts results in slow service delivery, poor quality
of infrastructure, poor performance of contractors, demise of
contractors due to severe negative cash-flow, risk of unfinished
projects and interest charges being incurred. 

The cidb will be hosting and facilitating a workshop addressing delayed
payment with construction industry stakeholders to chart a way forward
in ensuring that clients comply with the PFMA as well as their payment
contractual obligations with the contractors.
