CORRUPTION IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY: A NATIONAL SURVEY

Dear Fellow Professional

The issue of corruption in the SA construction industry is both current and topical. How corrupt is our industry? Who engages in corrupt activities? What form does such corruption take?

To try to answer these questions, the Department of Construction Economics and Management at the University of Cape Town has embarked on a project to establish the nature and extent of corruption within the South African construction industry – as experienced by professional persons such as yourself.

The opinion survey deals with issues such as: contextual demographic data; perceptions regarding the nature and extent of corruption; views on who participates in corrupt activities; and the role of clients, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, building inspectors, and suppliers in corruption.

The questions are topical and relevant to all who are concerned about the well-being of our industry.

Please record your views by linking to the questionnaire located at the following website. This survey is entirely web-based and the results are captured and processed electronically. The questionnaire can be found at the following URL.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NatCorrupt

Please call 021 – 650 3445 if you have any queries.

Kindly complete the survey by Friday 13th May 2011 if at all possible.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to participate in this survey. Individual responses will remain anonymous, as the results will be published in aggregate form only. All responses will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
