combined effect of various factors on the long-term performance of outfall
sewers is frequently omitted when sewers are being designed and as a result
they do not always provide the service life expected. Concrete is the ideal
material for large diameter outfall sewers, but under certain conditions this
material is subject to corrosion due to the biogenic formation of sulphuric
acid. By considering the factors contributing towards this during the design
and specification of sewers this problem can be minimized or eliminated.<o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>

Sewer corrosion project on behalf of the concrete pipe industry (1999-present)
and was a member of sewer study group initiated in 1987. On this project a
series of pipe materials are being evaluated under extremely aggressive
conditions. The results have been used in a design manual for the prediction
and control of corrosion in sewers. He has written several papers on the
subject of sewer corrosion and has presented them both locally and
internationally.<o:p></o:p></span></font></b></p>
