[Saice] Invitation to site visit

You are cordially invited to PMD's first site visit for the 2009
calendar year; on Tuesday 27 January 2009.  The visit will be to the
Vaal River Eastern Subsystem Augmentation Project (VRESAP).  This is an
interesting project that has had its challenges, both from a technical
and project/contract management point of view. The permanent and
temporary low level pumpstations on the banks of the Vaal dam and the
high level pumpstation will be viewed. A presentation will be given on
the difficulties that were encountered and how these were solved.

 

Draft Programme

*	Meet at 08h30 at SAICE House (Block 19, Thornhill Office Park,
Bekker Street, Vorna Valley X21, Midrand 
*	Presentation on the overall works.
*	Visit the Boschkop highlift pumpstation.
*	Review of the automated pumping system.
*	Visit the abstraction works pumpstation construction site out of
the Vaal dam.
*	Visit the temporary pumpstation installation.
*	Presentation on the lessons learnt on the project management
aspects of the project, twenty minutes from the client and twenty
minutes from the consultant's consortium.

 

NOTE: Transportation will be provided to the site and back to SAICE
House arriving about 16h00. A light lunch will be provided at site.
Application for CPD points is being made. If you have your own PPE
please bring it along. Reply to Hamish Riddet at

book a place. Numbers will be limited to 30 - first come first served.
To ensure sustainability of the Division we need to cover costs of the
site visit and request a contribution of R100 for PMD members and R130
for non-PMD members (students contribution is R50).
