Dear SAICE member,
As the year is progressing we are getting closer to the International
Conference on Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting, ICCRRR
2008 (Cape Town, 24 - 26 November 2008). This email serves as an update
on numerous new developments and I ask you to please take the time and
read through the issues listed below. There a few issues to consider for
your registration, as well as many activities and functions not be
missed.
Website: www.civil.uct.ac.za/iccrrr <http://www.civil.uct.ac.za/iccrrr>
Have a look on our updated website. Here you will find the latest news
on the conference programme, special lectures and sessions, invited
keynote presentations, workshops, accommodation, tours and travel,
social functions, sponsors, etc.
Conference registration
Early registration before 31 July attracts a considerable early-bird
discount. Please look at our website for details. Please note that the
rates for South African delegates have been kept very low as we are
hoping for a strong local participation.
Conference Programme, Keynotes and Guest Lectures
The 3-day conference programme will include parallel sessions with
presentations of all accepted papers, as well as Keynote and Guest
Lectures on selected aspects. Mapei has kindly agreed to sponsor Keynote
and Guest Speaker Sessions, which has helped to bring in the leading
experts from overseas. The full conference programme will be available
by August. In the meantime, please find information on Keynote and Guest
Lectures on our website.
Workshops
ICCRRR 2008 has been extended by 2 one-day workshops, which will be
offered on the days following the conference (27.11.08: Workshop on
non-destructive testing of concrete structures, NDT) and (28.11.08:
Workshop on strengthening of structures with composite materials, FRP).
Both workshops will be presented by internationally acclaimed experts in
their field and will include theoretical sessions and laboratory
demonstrations. Please see our website for details.
Exhibition
ICCRRR 2008 will also include a small exhibition related to concrete
repair and rehabilitation. Sika South Africa sponsor lunches and tea
times during the conference and will have their exhibition stand right
next to the buffets.
CPD Accreditation
The whole event is CPD-accredited. Each day of ICCRRR, as well as each
workshop attracts one CPD point.
Accommodation
A range of hotel options are available for conference delegates. Our
website provides extensive information on various options available.
Early booking is highly recommended, as November is high season in Cape
Town. Reservations made for ICCRRR delegates will be released to the
general public by the end of August, which means that bookings should
have been made until then to avoid last minute accommodation problems.
Welcome Function - Don't miss it...!
On Sunday, 23 November at 19:00, BASF Construction Chemicals is hosting
the opening function for ICCRRR in the Two Oceans Aquarium, which is
situated right opposite the conference venue in the V&A Waterfront. The
function is fully sponsored by BASF Construction Chemicals. All
registered conference delegates are invited to attend and bring their
spouses along! For catering purposes, please confirm your attendance by
responding to this email. For further details, please visit our website.
Conference Dinner - Don't miss it...!
The conference dinner will be held at Groot Constantia, the oldest wine
farm in South Africa whose history dates back to 1685. The programme for
the evening includes excellent food and wines, as well as wine-tastings,
wine cellar tours and life entertainment. The function is sponsored by
AfriSam and all registered conference delegates are welcome to attend.
Additional dinner tickets for partners and spouses can be obtained from
the Organizing Committee (details are provided on the conference
registration forms, please see our website for details). For catering
purposes, please confirm your attendance by responding to this email.
As you can see from the above, ICCRRR 2008 promises to be a major event
in the broad fields of concrete durability and concrete repair. As the
planning proceeds, the conference programme is increasingly becoming
more attractive, both from an academic and technical, as well as from a
social point of view.
We are looking forward to hosting you in Cape Town. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Hans Beushausen
On behalf of the Organizing Committee
