Bill 53-2008

SA Council for the Built Environment

SAICE has endeavored to keep our membership informed about developments
in this regards. However it is impossible to keep you up to date every
step of the way.

The intention is to publish an article on this matter when the process
has reached a preliminary stage of finalization.

In the mean time here are some points to ponder:

* A number of voluntary societies asked for and ultimately had a
meeting on 9 October 2008 with ECSA to discuss and share information on
activities and initiatives and the way forward.

* ECSA indicated that there would be a full page advertisement
in the Sunday Times of 12 October 2008 about ECSA and the engineering
profession.

* Many questions remain and there is indeed a great deal of
uncertainty about the way forward.

There is however agreement in general that the lobbying process
should and must continue. In this regard the following is of
importance:

*	There is currently a process underway to meet with the new
Minister of Public Works, Mr Jeff Doidge

*	The National Council of Provinces still has to consider the Bill
and several initiatives are underway to inform and lobby the National
Council of Provinces delegates.

*	Every individual in South African has a right to lobby and
present his or her own views during the legislative process and members
of SAICE are encouraged to utilize this opportunity.
