Introduction

Many University and University of Technology graduates/diplomates are not adequately exposed to the art of Geometric Design. Although most design offices make extensive use of sophisticated software packages, a basic understanding of design elements from first principles is crucial. 

Having a basic knowledge of important aspect of geometric design will give you the confidence to tackle any project with which you may be confronted, and more importantly to correctly interpret computer design output. 

Course Background

The course will be presented by Tom McKune who has twelve years geometric design experience in industry and nineteen years teaching Geometric Design. 

The course has been designed to be very practical with brief lecture sessions interspersed with practical working sessions to enable you to deal with the various aspects of geometric design in a hands on manner. 

The Course will be conducted over two sessions with the first session taking place on 28-30 July 2009 and the second session taking place on 9-10 September 2009.

REQUIREMENTS 

A set of notes and scrap paper will be provided. Please bring your own pen, calculator and the following items to the course; 

*	Scale rule 
*	30° and 60° set squares (ideally 30cm)
*	Circle template
*	Railway curves (ideally 15-45cm)
*	0,50 clutch pencil and leads 
*	Coloured pencil crayons
*	Etc

Due to the practical nature of the course it will be limited to 25 delegates and applications will be dealt with on a “first come first served” basis. Preference will be given to delegate applications for which payment has been received in full. VENUE 

The course will be conducted in the Cape Town at the University of Cape Town and the exact location of the venue will be confirmed at a later stage. 

COST

The cost of the course is R6500,00 per delegate for SAICE members R9000, 00 per delegate for Non-SAICE Members, which includes a comprehensive set of notes, lunches and teas.

Students can attend at a discounted rate of R5000, 00 per delegate. A discounted rate of 

R6 000, 00/R8 500, 00 (incl.) will be applicable for five of more delegates from one company attending the course.

ADMISSION CONDITIONS: Pre-payment is required. No booking will be confirmed without proof of payment. The registration form must be sent together with the proof of payment. Please note: No delegates will be allowed to the event without proof of payment. 

CANCELLATION POLICY: The full fee is payable if cancelled less than five (5) working days prior to the event. Delegates registering after the cancellation date is also liable for the full fee should they cancel. Please ensure that you receive a cancellation fax. Delegates booking and not attending will be liable for the full fee. Substitute delegates are welcome but names must be advised on a company/department letterhead. An administration fee of 10% is charged in the event of cancellation. SAICE reserves the right to cancel the course in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
