Background and explanation
It was the intention to have a consultative workshop with the Civil
Engineering Industry to get a measure of consensus regarding future
qualifications to be offered by Universities of Technology, and to see
what will be accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa.
This workshop was postponed a number of times due to recent meetings
with the Department Of Higher Education and Training where it became
apparent that the Department is changing the 2007 framework for
Engineering Technology qualifications. The latest of these meetings is
scheduled for 3 June and an Industry Briefing Session is therefore
scheduled for 4 June to bring you up to date with the latest
developments and thinking around engineering education.
After !4:00 a short meeting of the University of Technology Heads of
Departments of Civil Engineering will be held on the way forward and to
plan a HOD meeting to be held at a time when clarity about the revised
Higher Education Qualifications Framework (HEQF) is reached.
