[Saice] UPDATE: Bill 53-2008 SA Council for the Built Environment

TO ALL MEMBERS OF SAICE - YOU MAY WANT TO BRING OUT THE BUBBLY!

 

The controversial and much debated Built Environment Professions Bill
53-2008 has been withdrawn, as announced yesterday (18 November 2008) by
the Minister of Public Works, Minister Geoff Doidge. He addressed a
media briefing in Cape Town and explained that all issues had to be
addressed before the Bill could be tabled again. We attached the report
by Engineering News for your information.

 

We sincerely thank each and every member of SAICE for their
contributions and input during the past 8 months. SAICE and a number of
the other Engineering Institutions are however not relaxing as yet, as
we are pressing on to set a date and time for a meeting with Minister
Doidge to discuss the way forward in terms of the regulatory framework
for the Built Environment. It is now clearer than ever that
communication channels should be opened and re-established to foster
healthy and constructive discussions.
